Watermuse + Art on Main Street

Done in both of Photoshop and Illustrator this was inspired by a couple of stories of Mermaids from Barranquilla a coastal town of Colombia. In the summer I had the pleasure of visting this colorful town that is know for his Carnivals in February. This piece was shown last week "Weekend Art Show" in Miami Lakes, made some new friends got some great advice from local artist and sold three pieces Yay!

A couple teachers at the show have informed me that many public elementary and middle schools have cut Art, Music, & P.E. from there curriculum.. So tragic to think so many young kids won't be able to discover their talent. Just reminded me of a talk I saw on TED by Sir Kent Robinson about schools kill creativity. I couldn't imagine sitting in grade school with out painting and going out side for recess. Looking forward to my Art teacher everyday since kindergarden has made me who I am today.. Unfortunately many kids will be lost in a broken system if we dont take action..

En verano tuve el placer de visitar este linda ciudad que es conocido por sus carnavales en febrero. Esta pieza se exibo la semana pasada "Weekend Art Show" en Miami Lakes, hecho nuevos amigos, recibir algunos consejos de artistas locales y vende tres piezas Yay!

Un par de profesores en la exposición me han informado que muchas escuelas públicas de primaria y secundaria en Miami han cortadon Arte, Música, y Fisca de su currículum .. Trágico para muchos niños a que no puedenan descubrir su talento. Sólo me recordó una charla que vi en TED por Sir Kent Robinson acerca de las escuelas matan la creatividad. No me podía imaginar estar en la escuela primaria sin poder pintar o salir a jugar futbol. Desafortunadamente muchos niños se perderán en un sistema que no funciona.

Inmóvil La Madremonte

This weeks Illustration Friday is Immovable, I have decided to illustrate one of my favorite childhood bedtime stories La Madremonte (or Mother Earth).. My Grandfather would tell me never to go out to the mountain alone because la madremonte will kidnap me and I will never see my family again.. Its one of many different Colombian legends that exist to scare little children but I believe they are also were there to protect them.. I remember in the 80s Colombia was a very violent and dangerous during the Guerrilla Warfare by the F.A.R.C., E.L.N. and other military insurgent groups. Pretty sure that my grandfather wanted me to stay put and not wonder off into the vast mountain to be lost forever..

Esta semana el tema en Illustration Friday es inamovible, ilustrado uno de mis cuentos favoritos de la infancia La Madremonte.. Mi abuelo me decía que nunca debo ir a la montaña sola, porque la Madremonte me secuestran y nunca volver a mi familia otra vez .. Es una de muchas de las leyendas colombianas que existen para asustar a los niños pero creo que también estaban allí para protegerlos. Recuerdo que en los años 80 Colombia fue muy violento y peligroso durante la guerra de guerrillas de las FARC, el ELN y otros grupos insurgentes. Mi abuelo quería que me quedara quieta.

QR Codes is a matrix code that directs you straight to a url like my website. By downloading a QR reader on your smartphone or your computer you can scan codes found in business cards, magazine, signs and other places. I became interested in these QR codes after seeing codes in Esquire December 2009 "the augmented reality issue", It blew me away to see how codes can direct you to animation and video abot the editorial spreads. I am very interested to see the evolution of how users interact with content in the future.

Códigos QR es un código de la matriz que dirige directamente a una url como mi página web. Al descargar un lector de QR en el teléfono inteligente o computadora puede escanear códigos que se encuentran en tarjetas de visita, de revistas, señales y otros lugares. Me interesé en estos códigos QR después de ver los códigos en la revista Esquire diciembre de 2009 "la cuestión de realidad aumentada", que me dejó sin aliento al ver cómo los códigos pueden indicarle a la animación y el video se extiende Abot editorial. Estoy muy interesada en ver la evolucion de los usuarios con el contenido interactivo en el futuro.

Hello! Recently I purchased a new Imac due to the slow death of my previous one. It allows me to work much faster and its so beautiful. Currently working on a my website, I want to finish it before I leave to Colombia!! I finished a motion reel last week and will be sending it out when I get back. This weekend the recycling machine cinema spot will be airing in all of Miami's theaters!!

Hola! The Department of Solid Waste Management and Tv-Department of Miami-Dade County have asked me to illustrate a recycling machine. This machine is part of a cinema spot that encourages children to recycle more for a greener future. Animated with the help of motion designer Robert Molina the Tv-Department also shoot footage of 3 talented child actors from Hammocks Middle school to integrate into the spot. The animation and the child actors will be making there big scene debut on memorial day weekend in all of Miami's movie theaters. Soon I will post the final spot in addition to a long overdue motion reel. Take Care



Hola! El Departamento de Manejo de Residuos Sólidos y Tv-Departamento de Miami-Dade me han hecho ilustrar una máquina de reciclaje. Esta máquina es parte de un spot de cine que anima a los niños a reciclar para un futuro verde. Animado con la ayuda del movimiento diseñador Roberto Molina del Departamento de Tv también filman pequeños actores con talento de escuela intermedia Hammock Middle. La animación y los niños actores harán su debut en el fin de semana de Memorial Day en todas las salas de cine de Miami. Pronto voy a publicar la última plaza, además mi Motion reel 2010.

Currently I'm a freelance designer in Miami. Many things are in the process of changing in my life and I am finally working on what matters most children's books. Im extremely interested in making bilingual books about Colombian folkloric stories, its what I wish I had growing up here in U.S.

Below are thumbnails for The forbidden room of the Osorio Brothers a story that i'm revisiting from children's book class taught by Thomas Casmer. Wrote it in honor of two fantastic painters from my moms home town of Abejjoral.They were truly mysterious characters who never had formal art training but did very impressive works of art.

The Summer im heading back to Colombia for a month to travel all over the country to collect more stories and to meet as many family members that are never had the chance to meet..

Actualmente soy una diseñadora, trabajando en lo que me importa los libros de niños. Estoy muy interesada en hacer libros bilingües sobre las historias tradicionales Colombianas. De nina no tenia este tipo de libros bilingües aqui en EE.UU.

A continuación tengo imágenes en miniatura para mi libro El Cuarto Prohibido de los Hermanos Osorio una historia que escribe en la classe de libro para niños en la Universidad. Escribe este cuento en honor de dos pintores fantásticos del puelbo de mi madre Abejoral. Verdaderamente misteriosos, que nunca habían tomado classes formales de arte, pero que fureon muy buenos pintores.

Este verano voy a regresar a Colombia por un mes, para viajar por todo el país y para collectar más historias. También a conocer a tantos familiares que nunca tuve la oportunidad de conocer.

Last month moved to the Graphic Department of Miami-Dade County where I am surrounded by great designers and getting more Changenging assignments. Also where I produced this map for the Department of Solid Waste Management.. I illustrated all of the facilitates and vehicles they use to cycle the trash and recyclables in Miami-Dade.
